Apple setup
IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad
Apple devices give a smooth, tidy experience. There is one thing to know up front: a good player app may have its own small cost.
Apple TV
Check your model
Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD have the App Store. Older models do not, so they will not work for this.
Connect it
Use Ethernet if your model has a port. Otherwise, choose your 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Install the player
Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search for the app the desk recommends.
Enter your details
Use the on-screen keyboard, or the keyboard prompt on your iPhone, which is much faster.
iPhone and iPad
Update iOS
Some apps need a recent version. Go to Settings, General, Software Update.
Install the player
Find it in the App Store. Often the same developer offers an iPhone, iPad and Apple TV version.
Paste your details from the message we sent, which avoids any typing errors.
Watch or cast
Watch on the device, or send it to a TV with AirPlay if your app supports it.

About app fees
Many good players on Apple devices charge a one-time fee or a small subscription. That money goes to the developer, through Apple. It is not part of your plan with us, and we do not receive any of it.
We will tell you before you install whether the app we suggest has a fee. Look for a free trial in the app itself, too, and check that the app works with your details before you pay for it.
Family Sharing can cover some purchases, so you may not have to buy a player twice for the same household.
Apple questions we hear
Can I use one subscription on my Apple TV and my iPad?
Usually, yes.
Install a player on each and use the same details. The number of screens you can use at the same time depends on your plan, so ask if you want both playing at once.
Should I choose Apple TV or a smart TV app?
If you already have an Apple TV, use it: it is usually faster than a built-in TV app. If you do not, we would not suggest buying one only for this unless you want it for other things. A lower-cost stick may do the job.
An app disappeared from the App Store. What now?
That sometimes happens with third-party players. If it is already installed, it will usually keep working. Ask the desk about alternatives if it stops.
